Playtest and Development Process


In Feast Rush, the player would be a customer who is late at a buffet. The player is trying to make the most value of his/her money by eating different food to reach the targeted fullness and eventually leave the restaurant. In the meantime, other customers are also aiming for the same purpose. While they are rushing for the delicious food at the buffet, the player is being pushed around and sometimes cannot reach the food he/she wants and thus needs to move around in a smarter way to fill the empty belly. When the goal of the current room is reached, the player can then move into the next room, and eventually leave the buffet.

During the development, a lot of constructive feedback was received. Unfortunately, we did not have time to address every single one of them in the game, if given more time, the game could be more polished with them. Some of the bugs reported were: the lighting in the appetizer and dessert room was darker after building the project; the pathfinding in the entree room was not as “smart”; the tables in the dessert room sometimes shift when the player is walking around; the player is sometimes inside the table, etc. Some of the suggestions we received were: adjust the camera perspective so that the layout of the food items is more recognizable; find potential ways to avoid the enemies; give the enemies more abilities so it is more intense, etc.    Lastly, in our final version, we were able to fix some of the bugs and complete some of the adjustments, such as fixing the pathfinding as well as the camera perspective, and more. Looking into the future, more improvements could be made and the game can be more complicated and fun.

Prototype checkpoint:

  • Change the camera to be 3rd person's perspective

Beta checkpoint:

  • Fix the lighting (issue unknown)
  • When clicking on the food the score did not go up sometimes
    • Food items are too small
  • Dessert room: camera higher and in the corner
  • Tables shifted in the dessert room when the enemy pushes the player
    • Navmesh problem with the tables
  • Pathfinding a bit weird in the meat room
  • The player sometimes seems to be inside the table
  • Maybe have the food disappear/sound effect when eating
  • Modify the moving to be left click
  • Give instructions on the controls
  • Find potential ways to avoid the enemies
